Independence Public Library seeks an enthusiastic Summer Assistant to join our team for the upcoming season. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in a professional setting while contributing to our mission of serving the community. Duties include processing new items, program support, and maintaining library spaces. Ideal for students or someone seeking a temporary position.
Job Title: Summer Assistant
Hours: approximately 10-15 hours per week
Duration: late May through August 2024

Responsibilities:
- Assist in the processing of library materials, including books, DVDs, and other media.
- Work with library staff to create records for new library materials.
- Help maintain the organization of library spaces, including shelves, work areas, and public areas.
- Assist with special projects and events as needed, including setup, cleanup, and logistical support.
- Provide occasional assistance to patrons with finding library items or using online resources.
- Other duties as assigned by library staff.

Qualifications:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Be comfortable interacting with the public including children.
- Must have the physical ability to do fine hand movements, type, read fine print, lift up to 15 pounds, and push/pull a wheeled cart
